The concept of the Paleo diet first came to a head back in the 1970s. Since then, this diet has gained popularity due to an increase in the number of health problems that people are facing these days. In my search for health and effective weight loss within the bounds of a gluten-free diet, I came across countless books. These books, while helpful, didn’t really satisfy what I was hoping to find.
What I found surprising was that the majority of the books had the same problem. The diet wasn’t as clean I liked and the weight loss wasn’t sustainable. This was up until I found a scientist called Loren Cordain, who had converted years of his knowledge into a book known as The Paleo Diet.
My discovery of the Paleo diet
I learned that the Paleo diet is a concept which advises people to focus on food items that our ancestors in the Paleolithic age used to have. The logic behind such a recommendation is that a human being is biologically designed to have certain types of food items.
If you extend this logic, then it can be said that a deviation from these preordained set of food groups will cause an individual to suffer from various health problems, which is the case in today’s world.
What does a Paleo diet mean?
The basic logic of the Paleo diet, as explained by Loren Cordain, means that the following types of food items must be what an individual should rely upon for his daily nutritional needs:
- Naturally occurring fresh seafood
- Grass fed fresh meat
- Fresh eggs
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Nuts and mushrooms
There are various options that a person can find within each of these categories in the modern day food store. This means that the only difficulty a person may have with following what this book teaches is arranging for the time required to cook everything.
It should also be noted that the Paleo diet’s underlying principle would result in the exclusion of the following food groups from an individual’s diet:
- Milk and dairy products
- Grains of all types
- All kinds of leguminous food items
- Everything refined or processed
Each of these categories of food is a major part of the way people eat today. Therefore, to a certain extent, it can be said that these foodstuffs have become a major part of the modern culture. Effectively, this book by Loren Cordain in a way promotes a change in lifestyle where every meal is natural and unprocessed.
A refined new / old way to be fit
Now that I have explained what the Paleo diet is, I need to specify something that I realized after having gone through half of the book. As you progress through the pages, you’ll come across instances and examples of what should be eaten and what should not be eaten. Each of these examples will be accompanied by a scientific explanation as well.
However, what’s crucial is that there are no suggestions or concepts within the Loren Cordain book that actually clash with modern knowledge of nutrition and the human body. While I did see the book criticizing certain aspects of certain diet plans, all in all, its principles match what we know about the human body as of now.

I mentioned earlier that what got me into this book was basically the author himself. While you will find many authors in the market who have written about the Paleo diet and how to implement it, Loren Cordain is easily the frontrunner in terms of qualifications and reputation.
Loren Cordain is one of the first few genuine scientists who started focusing on nutrition and exercise in terms of our ancestors. In fact, Loren Cordain is primarily known in the country and the world as one of the biggest proponents of Paleolithic nutrition.

Most of us don’t have the time to figure out what one sentence means or look up the meanings of various words. We all tend to lead busy lives and most of us don’t have a lot of time to waste.
